Chemical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology

About Max Kristy

Max Kristy is an ARC Scholar and Supplemental instructor for Illinois Institute of Technology’s Academic Resource Center. In his position, he instructs students in Circuit Analysis — a discipline of electrical engineering. Interested in cultivating students’ education, Max holds bi-weekly lecture review sessions, which enable students to receive help beyond that in the classroom. Max also applies his knowledge during class by fielding questions about coursework.

Throughout his academic career, Max has always valued helping others. He previously mentored a 4th grade student through American Education Mentors, where he improved the student’s attendance record, as well as their grades. In high school and college, Max Kristy often tutored his peers in a wide variety of subjects, including: algebra, geometry, calculus, chemistry, and English. As a tutor, Max also channelled his entrepreneurial side, by developing his own pricing and marketing plans.

Max has always found mentoring rewarding. He enjoyed the ability to help someone in need, while also watching the benefits of the advice, encouragement, and academic help. Although he states that his mentee was receptive to his help, there is no denying that his efforts produced great results. Furthermore, Max enjoys helping others learn from his mistakes, so they can reach success.

Outside of tutoring, Max Kristy also helped other by volunteering as a candy striper at his local hospital. This position was special to Max, as his dad suffered from pancreatic cancer and passed away shortly before he started. As a candy striper, it brought him joy to speak with the patients and their families, and to brighten their day. Although Max spent most of his time discharging patients, they still enjoyed spending time with him and told him he positively impacted their stay and made them feel better.

Although philanthropy is important to Max, his personal education is also one of his top priorities. He previously studied petroleum engineering at University of Texas – Austin and currently studies chemical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he plans to graduate in 2019. Some of his biggest achievements have been an International Baccalaureate Diploma, which he received in 2013 and Dean’s List at Illinois Institute of Technology for the Spring 2017 semester. Max continuously strives to achieve academic excellence, in order to be a role model and leader to his peers.

When Max isn’t busy studying or volunteering, he enjoys playing tennis, chess, and traveling to various foreign countries and U.S. states.
